How do I install Guardian antivirus?
You can install Guardian antivirus using the Guardian CD or the Guardian installer.
Using Guardian CD
- Open the drive where the Guardian antivirus CD/DVD is available.
- On the software, click Install.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Using Guardian Installer

Download the Guardian antivirus from Guardian products.

To install Guardian antivirus, double-click the product setup and then follow the on-screen instructions.
It is important that you register the product soon after you install it. A subscriber with registered license can use all the features without any interruptions, take the updates regularly, and get technical support whenever required. To register the product, see How can I register/activate Guardian antivirus?
On which platforms can Guardian antivirus be installed?
Guardian antivirus can be installed on any of the following Windows operating systems — Windows 10, Windows 8.1 / Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP (SP 2).
How can I register/activate Guardian antivirus?
You can register/activate Guardian antivirus online, offline, or through SMS as per your convenience.
Registering Online
If you are connected to the Internet you can register your product online. To register Guardian antivirus online, follow these steps:

Open Guardian antivirus.

On the Dashboard, click the Register Now button.
-
On the Registration Wizard, enter the 20-digit Product Key and click Next.
Registration Information appears.
- Enter relevant information in the Purchased From and Register for text boxes, and then click Next.

Provide your Name, Email Address, and Contact Number. Select your Country, State, and City.
If your State/Province and City are not available in the list, you can type your locations in the respective boxes.

Click Next to continue.
A confirmation screen appears with the details you entered.
If any modifications are needed, click Back to go to the previous screen and make the required changes.

Click Next to continue.
Your product is activated successfully. The expiry date of your license is displayed.
- Click Finish to close the Registration Wizard.
Registering Offline
You can register Guardian antivirus offline if your computer is not connected to the Internet.
Before registering offline, make sure you have product key, installation number, and activation license key ready with you.
Finding your Product Key
You can find your Product Key in your product packaging. If you have purchased the product online, the Product Key is sent to the email address confirming your purchase order.
Finding your Installation Number
You can find the Installation Number from the Activation Wizard in the following way:

Open Guardian antivirus.

On the dashboard, click the Register Now button.

On the Registration Wizard, click Register Offline.
The offline activation screen appears with the offline activation URL and 12-digit Installation Number. Note down these details or click Save to file to save them in text file.
Generating activation license key
To generate an activation license key, follow these steps:

Visit the offline activation page at http://www.guardianav.co.in/guardian-support.
An Off-Line Registration page appears.

Follow the instructions for offline activation displayed on the website.
Ensure that you have the Product Key and Installation Number with you.

Enter the Product Key and Installation Number in the relevant fields and click Submit.

On the registration form, enter the relevant information and then click Submit. All asterisk (*) fields are mandatory to fill.
A new offline activation license key is generated. This key is unique and can be used only once. Save this key to activate Guardian antivirus offline. This key is also sent to your email address that you provided during registration of the product.
Activating Guardian antivirus with activation license key
After the offline activation license key is generated, you can proceed with activating Guardian antivirus on your computer.

Open Guardian antivirus.

On the dashboard, click the Register Now button.

On the Registration Wizard, click Register Offline.
The offline activation screen appears.

Click Browse to locate the path where the <license>.key is stored and click Next.
Your license is activated successfully, and the expiry date of your license is displayed.

Click Finish.
Registering through SMS
You can register Guardian antivirus through SMS also.
Note: Currently, the Registration through SMS facility is available to the subscribers based in India only.
To register Guardian antivirus through SMS, follow these steps:

Open Guardian antivirus.

On the dashboard, click the Register Now button.
-
On the Registration Wizard, click SMS Registration.
A screen with the conditions related to registering through SMS appears. Read the conditions carefully.

Click Next.
-
Enter the 20-digit Product Key and click Next.
The Registration Information appears.

Enter relevant information in the Purchased From and Register for text boxes, and then click Next.
-
Enter your Name, Email Address, and Contact Number. Select your Country, State, and City.
If your State/Province and City are not available in the list, you can type your locations in the respective boxes.

Click Next.
A confirmation screen appears with the information that you entered.
If any modifications are needed, click Back to go to the previous page and make the required changes. -
Click Next.
A unique code along with a mobile number is displayed.
-
Type the code and send it as an SMS to the number displayed.
After successful registration at the Guardian antivirus Registration Center, you will receive an SMS on your registered mobile number that contains an alphanumeric activation code. Type this activation code in the text box displayed and click Next.
Your product is activated successfully, and the expiry date of your license is displayed.

Click Finish to close the Registration Wizard.
Can I install Guardian antivirus on another computer?
Yes. For this, you must first uninstall the antivirus software from the current PC and then you can install it on another PC. Moreover, you need to register your software once again on the new PC. To register Guardian antivirus, see How can I register/activate Guardian antivirus?
Note: Using same product key on multiple computers at the same time may lead to service disruption.
Where will I find the Product Key of my Guardian antivirus?
You can find the Product Key in either of the following ways.

On the dashboard of Guardian, you can see a link “License days left”. Here you can see when your license is expiring. If you click this link, you can see the license details.

Open Guardian antivirus. On the dashboard, select Help > About. Click the License Details button. Open Guardian antivirus. On the dashboard, select Help > About. Click the License Details button.
How do I know when my license is expiring?
On the dashboard of Guardian, you can see a link “License days left”. Here you can see when your license is expiring. If you click this link, you can see the license details.
When I enter the License.key for re-registering, I get the 'License.key file is invalid' message. What should I do now?
Operating System
How can I identify whether my operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit?
Different operating systems may be available in different versions, 32-bit or 64-bit. If you download Guardian antivirus from our website on the computer where you want to install it, our installer will automatically detect your computer operating system and its version. Hence, you will get the right product. However, in case you need to know operating system and the version of your computer, follow these steps.
On Windows 10

Go to Control Panel > System.

Look at the System type under System.
If the System type is 32-bit operating system, you need to download 32-bit Guardian antivirus product setup file. If the System type is 64-bit operating system, you need to download 64-bit Guardian antivirus product setup file.
On Windows 8.1 and Windows 8

Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System.

Look at the System type under System.
If the System type is 32-bit operating system, you need to download 32-bit Guardian antivirus product setup file. If the System type is 64-bit operating system, you need to download 64-bit Guardian antivirus product setup file.
On Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2008 R2
Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2008 R2 operating systems are available only in 64-bit.
On Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008

Go to Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System.

Look at the System type under System.
If the System type is 32-bit operating system, you need to download 32-bit Guardian antivirus product setup file. If the System type is 64-bit operating system, you need to download 64-bit Guardian antivirus product setup file.
On Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server operating systems
- Go to Start > Control Panel. The Control Panel window opens.
- Double-click the System icon. The System Properties window opens.
- In the General tab under System, if x64 is mentioned before Edition, your operating system is a 64-bit operating system, else it is a 32-bit operating system.
Renewal
How do I renew Guardian antivirus?
To renew your license of Guardian antivirus, please visit https://www.guardianav.co.in/renew.
You may also send us an email for renewal to renew@guardianav.co.in or call us at 09272202525. Alternatively, you can also visit any retailer or dealer of Guardian product or our Guardian office.
To renew Guardian, do I need a new product key or the same product key can be used?
To renew Guardian, you do not need a new product key, you need a renewal code. Use the renewal code to renew your product.
To renew Guardian, I need Product Key. Where will I find it?
You can find the Product Key in either of the following ways.

On the dashboard of Guardian, you can see a link “License days left”. Here you can see when your license is expiring. If you click this link, you can see the license details.

Open Guardian antivirus. On the dashboard, select Help > About. Click the License Details button.
How can I renew Guardian after purchasing the renewal code?
After purchasing the renewal code, follow these steps.

Open Guardian antivirus.

Go to Help > About > Renew Now.

Select the option I have renewal code or new product key with me and click Next. The Registration Information appears.

Relevant information in the Purchased From, Email Address, and Contact Number text boxes appears pre-filled. You can modify your contact details, if required. To proceed, click Next. (Note: The license information such as Current expiry date and New expiry date are displayed for your confirmation.)

Click Next. (Note: The license of Guardian antivirus is renewed successfully.)

Click Finish to complete the renewal process.
I renewed the license of Guardian antivirus but my license details have not yet been updated?
If you renew your license online, the license details will get updated automatically whether your product has expired or is about to expire in 60 days as soon as you launch the Guardian scanner.
However, you may update your license details with immediate effect in the following way.
- Open Guardian antivirus.
- On the dashboard, click the Help menu and then select About.
- Click the License Details button.
- Click Update License Details and then click Continue.
I am using an older version of Guardian and want to renew its license.
If you are using an older version of Guardian antivirus, it is always recommended to upgrade it to the latest version first and then renew the license.
To upgrade to the latest version,

Download the latest product build from https://www.guardianav.co.in/builds.
Make sure that you download the correct product type.

Uninstall the existing product.
Note: Save your Product Key before you uninstall the product. You will need it to reactivate the product.

Install the new build.

If I renew my license well before the expiry date, will my remaining period get extended?
Yes. New expiry date will be calculated from the date when renewal code is applied if the product has expired. If the product has not expired, the expiry date will be calculated from the original expiry date.
Will my product be upgraded automatically when I renew my Guardian license?
No. Only your existing version of Guardian antivirus will be renewed and not upgraded.
If you want to upgrade your product to the latest version, follow these steps.

Download the latest product build from https://www.guardianav.co.in/builds.
Make sure that you download the correct product type.

Uninstall the existing product.
Note: Save your Product Key before you uninstall the product. You will need it to reactivate the product.

Install the new build.

Reactivate your product.
Are reactivation and renewal the same things?
No. If you uninstall Guardian antivirus from your computer and then reinstall it, you have to reactivate the license once again. This is known as reactivation. Renewal means your current license validity has expired and you need to extend the license validity by purchasing a new renewal code.
Can I pay you money for renewal through NEFT/DD/cheque? If yes, then on which address?
Yes, you can send the money through NEFT/DD/cheque. Following are the details:

Using Guardian antivirus
Ransomware attacks have been on the ramp for sometime now. Does Guardian have any solution to this?
Yes. Guardian has Total Ransomware Protection. This protection keeps a backup of your data and will help you restore them in case there is any such attack. It is recommended that you always keep Ransomware Protection turned on.
I have lots of financial data (Tally accounting files) on my computer. How can I secure them?
You are advised to always keep Total Ransomware Protection on. This feature regularly keeps a backup of your data including the Tally accounting files in an encrypted format. In case of an ransomware attack, you can easily recover all your backed up data.
My computer is a shared resource and several people attach their devices to my computer. How can I control this?
You can keep Data Theft Protection in Guardian Total Security turned on. When you need to share data, you can turn this off temporarily and then turn it on. No unauthorized person can copy data from your computer.
I installed Guardian but Screen Locker Protection is not working.
After you install Guardian, you must restart your computer. This will resolve the issue.
What is an Emergency CD? How do I create an Emergency CD?
You can create your own emergency bootable CD that will help you to boot your Windows PC and scan and clean all the drives including NTFS partitions. This CD helps in cleaning stringent viruses/malware from your PC that cannot be cleaned from inside Windows.
You can create an emergency CD or command line scanner from Guardian antivirus. This will be created with the latest virus signature pattern file used by Guardian antivirus on your system.
Operating system compatibility for Emergency CD
To create Guardian antivirus Emergency CD, your system should meet the following requirements:

Your computer should have one of the following Windows operating systems – Microsoft Windows 10/ Microsoft Windows 8/ Microsoft Windows 7/ Microsoft Windows Vista/ Microsoft Windows Server 2008 / Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 / Microsoft Windows Server 2012.

On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, Emergency Disk creation is supported only on USB and memory card.
Before creating an Emergency Disk, ensure the following:
-
It is recommended that you retain a copy of the extracted package on your computer.
-
If you have data on the USB device or rewritable CD/DVD on which you are creating Emergency Disk, take a backup of the data, as the device will be formatted.
-
To boot the system from either USB or CD/DVD, you have to set Boot sequence in BIOS.
-
Once the scan is complete, you must remove the Emergency USB disk or CD/DVD before restarting the computer, otherwise it will again boot in the boot shell.
Creating Emergency Disk
To create an Emergency Disk, follow these steps:
-
Open Guardian antivirus.
-
On the dashboard, click Tools.
-
Under Cleaning & Restore Tools, click Create Emergency Disk.
-
On the Create Emergency Disk screen, click the link and download the required package for emergency tool.
-
Extract the downloaded package on your system. For example: c:\my documents\qhemgpkg.
-
Provide the extracted package path and click Next.
-
To create Emergency Disk, select any one of the options that are displayed on the screen. For example, select either Create Emergency USB disk or Create Emergency CD/DVD.
Note: Creating Emergency Disk using CD/DVD is not supported on Microsoft Windows 2003 and earlier versions. However, you can create Emergency Disk on USB drives instead.

Select the disk drive to be converted to an Emergency Disk and click Next. On successful creation of an Emergency Disk, a message is displayed.
Using Emergency Disk

Insert Emergency Disk in your CD/DVD/USB drive.
-
Restart your system.
-
Emergency Disk starts scanning all the drives automatically. It will disinfect the infection, if found.

I want Guardian antivirus to scan my system at every first boot on daily basis. How can I do this?
You can schedule the scanner to run automatically. You need to schedule the scan once and your PC will be scanned on defined schedule. You can schedule the scan in the following way.

Open Guardian antivirus.
-
On the dashboard, click Scan Options.
-
On the Files & Folders screen, click Scan Schedule. The Scan Schedule details screen appears.
-
To define a new scan schedule, click New.
-
In Scan Name, type a scan name.
-
Under Scan Frequency, select the following options based on your preferences:
- Scan Frequency:
-
Daily: Select this option if you want to initiate scanning of your system daily. This option is selected by default.
-
Weekly: Select this option if you want to initiate scanning of your system on a certain day of the week. When you select the Weekly option, the Weekdays drop-down list is activated so you can select a day of the week.
-
- Scan time:
-
Start at first boot: This helps you schedule the scanner to begin at the first boot of the day. If you select this option, you do not need to specify the time of the day to start the scan. Scanning takes place only during the first boot regardless what time you start the system.
-
Start at: Select this option to initiate the scanning of your system at a certain time. If you select this option, the time drop-down list is activated where you can set the time for scanning. However, this option is selected by default.
You can further define how often the scan should begin in the Everyday and Repeat scan after every options.

- Scan priority:
- High: Helps you set high scan priority.
- Low: Helps you set low scan priority. However, this option is selected by default.
- Scan Frequency:
-
Under Scan Settings, you can specify scan mode, define the advanced options for scanning, action to be performed when virus is found and whether you want a backup of the files before taking any action on them. However, the default setting is adequate for scanning to keep your system clean.

In the Username text box, enter your username and your password in the Password text box.
-
Run task as soon as possible if missed: Select this option if you want to initiate scanning when the scheduled scan is missed. This is helpful in case your system was switched off and the scan schedule is missed, later when you switch on the system, the scan schedule will automatically start. This option is available only on Microsoft Windows Vista and later operating systems.

Click Next. The Configure Scan Schedule screen for adding folders to be scanned appears.

Click Add Folders.
-
In the Browse for Folder Window, select the drives and folders to be scanned. You can add multiple numbers of drives and folders as per your requirement.
If you want to exclude subfolders from being scanned, you can also select Exclude Subfolder. Click OK.

On the Configure Scan Schedule screen, click Next.
-
A summary of your scan schedule appears. Verify and click Finish to save and close the Scan Schedule dialogue.

Click Close to close the Scan Schedule screen.
Compatibility/Exception Rules
I have downloaded Guardian antivirus from Guardian’s website but it is not getting installed. What is the reason?
This may be because of version incompatibility issue. You might have downloaded on a computer with some operating system that is different from the computer where you are trying to install Guardian antivirus.

While registering offline, I am using the activation license key that I created before. But it is not working.
Updating Guardian antivirus
Are the upgrades free? If yes, how long?
All the updates and upgrades are free for registered users until the product license is valid.
My product receives updates frequently. Why update is required?
New virus threats and malwares are released daily and to combat these threats, new security measures are released as and when required. It is highly recommended that you keep your product updated to ensure security against new threats. You can configure Automatic Update to pick up the updates automatically as and when new updates are available. If set to automatic mode, the updates are taken in the background without user’s intervention.
I am using Guardian antivirus on a computer that has no Internet but is connected in a network. How can I update my product automatically?
You can update Guardian whether your computer is connected to Internet if you are in the network.
- Set up one computer (may be the server) as the master update machine. Suppose server name is SERVER.
- Make QHUPD folder in any location. For example: C:\QHUPD. Assign Read-Only sharing rights to this folder.
- Select Start > Programs > Guardian antivirus > Guardian antivirus.
- On Dashboard, select Settings > Automatic Update.
- Select Copy update files to specified location.
- Click Browse and locate the QHUPD folder. Click OK.
- Click Save Changes to save this setting.
- On all user computers within the network launch Guardian antivirus.
- Under Settings, go to the Automatic Update page.
- Select Pick update files from specified path.
- Click Browse.
- Locate the SERVER\QHUPD folder from Network Neighborhood. Alternatively you can type the path as \\SERVER\QHUPD.
- Click Save Changes to save the settings.
General
Can I use more than one antivirus software on my computer?
No. Running more than one antivirus software on a single computer is not recommended.
I set Password Protection in Guardian antivirus. But I have forgotten my password now. How can I retrieve my password?
Click on any feature, you will be prompted to enter your password. On the same dialog box, you can see a link Forgot password? Using this link, you can retrieve your password.

To retrieve your lost product key, please write to support@guardianav.co.in with the purchase details. We will respond as soon as possible.
I want to change my contact details that I provided at the time of registration. How can I do this?
To update your contact details, send us an email with your current details to support@guardianav.co.in.

How do I uninstall Guardian antivirus?
Removing Guardian antivirus may pose your computer to virus threats. However, if you need to uninstall Guardian antivirus, follow these steps:
- If your operating system is Windows 10, select Start > Control Panel. On the Control Panel, click the Programs and Features link. (On other operating systems, this may be termed as Program only). On the Programs and Features list, right-click on Guardian antivirus and select Uninstall.
- Guardian antivirus Uninstaller will prompt for the deletion of Reports. If you wish to reinstall Guardian antivirus after some time, you can clear the Remove Report Files option. Otherwise, press OK.
- After uninstallation, your system will prompt you to restart your system for changes to take effect.
Note: Uninstalling Guardian antivirus requires administrative rights.
